Community Couture is an attempt to bring multiple perspectives together, with garments serving as a source of individual stories, collective experiences, shared goals, history and folklore.

How is it made?

1. Question
Every garment starts with a question which then defines the theme of the fabric.
2. Open Call
Responses are collected via open call in a form of images or text.
3. Fabric design, pattern and materials
‘Bespoke' fabric design is a result of
stories that it conveys.

The materials used to make Community Couture textile is waste-based. The design on the left was crafted from tiny pieces of t-shirt factory waste and laid on a garment pattern that has no offcuts. Any waste from the fabric could suggest exclusion and devaluation and therefore can’t be accepted.

4. Craft
Community Couture uses the diligence of craft to transform fabric waste into an engaging statement garment honouring the experiences and thoughts from the time of its creation.
The project locates the value of design in the connections it forms and its ability to carry the past, as opposed to its ‘new' appeal.
